Neighborhood Poetry Tours
What is a Poetry Tour?
Gemini Ink’s Writers in Communities (WIC) Poetry Tours are the culmination of writing projects where a published writer works with a group of students to write poetry that is then illustrated by a professional artist. The work is published on broadsides (posters) and prominently displayed in local businesses in the young writers’ neighborhoods. Area shops, restaurants, and beauty parlors, among others, support literacy and creativity by displaying WIC’s brightly illustrated broadsides. The work reflects the young voices of our neighborhoods. Not only is it a way of carrying on a dialogue with the children in our communities, it’s also a way of beautifying our surroundings and our lives.
