From Seed to Page: Developing New Ideas for Writing About Food

May 11 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

$90

This discussion-based class explores how food writing can be a gateway to better understanding of history, culture, and ourselves. We will talk about why writing about food is important, the history and types of food writing, resources for conducting research and, more importantly, how this work connects us to our history and the world around us. Come prepared to discuss some pre-assigned reading and your ideas for a food-related essay you are interested in writing.

David Leftwich is a writer interested in the intersection of food, culture, history, and immigration. His recent work has appeared in the Houston Chronicle, Cite, Sugar & Rice, Edible Houston, My Table, and Food+City and he is the author of the poetry chapbook The City (Little Red Leaves Textile Series).
