Words Matter: Canine Cosmonaut: The True Story of the First Animal to Orbit Earth

Kurt Caswell, author of the book Laika’s Window and professor of creative writing at Texas Tech University, will be discussing the story of Laika, the Soviet rescue dog that became the first animal to orbit the earth. Free and open to the public.

Kurt Caswell is the author of four books of nonfiction, most recently Laika’s Window: The Legacy of a Soviet Space Dog; and Getting to Grey Owl: Journeys on Four Continents. He has taught in the MFA program at Vermont College of Fine Arts and is a professor of creative writing and literature in the Honors College at Texas Tech University. He lives in Lubbock, Texas.
