Literary Cafe: Poetry Publishing Today

Join poets Octavio Quintanilla, Alexandra van de Kamp and Laura Van Prooyen as they discuss the glories and challenges of contemporary poetry publishing. Gain practical tips and the know-how to get your work out into the world.

Octavio Quintanilla is the San Antonio Poet Laureate (2018-2020), and a CantoMundo fellow. He’s the author of If I Go Missing (Slough Press, 2014). Quintanilla received his PhD from the University of North Texas. His work has been published in Alaska Quarterly Review, Southwestern American Literature and RHINO, among others. He teaches Literature and Creative Writing in the M.A./M.F.A. program at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.

Laura Van Prooyen is the author of two collections of poetry, Our House Was on Fire (Ashland Poetry Press, 2015) and Inkblot and Altar (Pecan Grove Press, 2006). She received grants from the American Association of University Women and the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, as well as a Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg prize, among other honors. Her work has been published in numerous literary journals, including Ploughshares, Missouri Review, Prairie Schooner, Boston Review, Slate and The Collagist.

Alexandra van de Kamp is the Creative Writing Program Director and Interim Executive Director at Gemini Ink. She is the author of Kiss/Hierarchy (Rain Mountain Press, 2016) and The Park of Upside-Down Chairs (WordTech Communications, 2010). Alexandra is also the author of several chapbooks, including Dear Jean Seberg, winner of the Burnside Review Chapbook Contest. Her work has been published in numerous literary journals, including Crab Orchard Review and Denver Quarterly.
