My House But Not My House: Surrealist Poetry & the Imagination

October 26 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

A Master Class with Laura Eve Engel

What we love most about our dreams is also what can make them mysterious to us: they’re of our making, but out of our control. Surrealism aims to access the parts of our minds that build the imaginative landscapes we visit in our dreams, to turn those parts loose on our waking lives, and our writing. In this generative master class, we’ll explore the many functions of the mind’s eye—the imagination—in poetry, and revitalize our approaches to image making.

Laura Eve Engel is the author of Things That Go (Octopus Books). The recipient of fellowships from the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, her work can be found in The Awl, Best American Poetry, Boston Review, The Nation, PEN America, Tin House and elsewhere. She’s in a band called The Old Year.
