Writing Gifts: A Celebratory Workshop

December 9, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

TUPLOGOWords Matter Series

Gemini Ink and Trinity University Press join together to present a series of classes and lectures created around the vital life of the written word. These classes take place at The Trinity University Holt Center, 106 Oakmont Court.

This one-day poetry (or prose!) workshop focuses on what we already have in our vast treasure-houses of material—what we haven’t used yet, what we might restyle as a gift for ourselves or someone else. In the December gift-giving and shopping season, writing itself might be our best gift. What about a poem in honor of someone else? A paragraph to be hand-printed on lovely paper as a treat for anyone you’d like to surprise? You will leave with at least 4-6 different rough drafts. Lots of presents! Open to all. Please read some Padgett poems and pick a few favorites before class.

Class text: Collected Poems by Ron Padgett or, any single volume by Ron Padgett.

Naomi Shihab Nye--her choice of picNaomi Shihab Nye has written or edited more than 35 books including the poetry collections Fuel (BOA Editions), Famous (Wings Press), Transfer (BOA Editions) and the Children’s books The Turtle of Oman and Habibi, to name just a few. She has received a Lavan Award from the Academy of American Poets, the Isabella Gardner Poetry Award, and the Paterson Poetry Prize, among other distinctions.
