This is a courtesy message in advance of the November 2025 interruption of SNAP food assistance payments resulting from the Federal Government Shutdown.  If you or someone you know receives SNAP benefits, take advantage, this week, of opportunities to obtain food resources.  Also consider what is needed for your household as you may have to plan to eat more intentionally, at this time.

Finding Food: Use the Food Bank’s or their partners’ online locator (often called Freshtrak) by entering your zip code to find nearby pantries and upcoming distribution events.

San Antonio Food Bank: The Food Bank is the core of the emergency food network in the area. They distribute food through hundreds of partner agencies (like food pantries and soup kitchens) and host large-scale food distribution events.

211 Texas: This is a comprehensive social services hotline. Dial 2-1-1 on your phone (or 877-541-7905) and press option “1” to get free, confidential, multilingual assistance to find food pantries, meal sites, and other social service programs in your local area.

Local Food Pantries and Community Centers: Many churches and non-profits operate food pantries that offer groceries to the public. These often require you to live within a specific service area (e.g., a parish boundary) and may ask for a photo ID and proof of residence (like a utility bill), so it’s best to call ahead.
Catholic Charities San Antonio – St. Stephen’s CARE Center Food Pantry: Offers a client-choice food pantry where clients can shop for groceries for free. They also provide other emergency assistance.

Family Service – Presa Community Center: Operates an Emergency Food Pantry for individuals and families in crisis.

The Salvation Army San Antonio: Provides free food through pantries and meals, along with other social services.

H.O.P.E. Help Other People Eat – Rivers of Hope Ministries: A community food pantry that often operates on a walk-up, no-appointment basis (check their calendar for specific days/times).
Address: 7804 Eckhert Rd, San Antonio, TX 78240 (inside Grace Fellowship Baptist Church)

Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM): Provides groceries, clothing, and other services. Groceries are often available once every two months per family.
Locations: 110 McCullough Ave & 5048 Zavala (check their site for specific service details and hours)

Little Free Pantries / Community First Food Pantries: These are smaller, self-service pantries designed to provide non-perishable items 24/7 in various community locations. No ID or appointment is required.

Meals on Wheels San Antonio: This program delivers free, nutritious meals to homebound seniors and on a limited basis, disabled individuals under 60 who are unable to cook or leave their homes.

St. Vincent de Paul Society:Offers food assistance, clothing, and other resources. Phone: 210-223-1200.
Highland Park CAN: 850 E. Drexel, 210-533-7114. Client Choice Food Pantry, BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Call in November for an appointment in December.

River City Community Church: Food distribution Every Wednesday from 8am – 10am and 3rd Saturdays from 9am – 10am. No pre-registration required. 16765 Lookout Road in Selma.

SA Hope Center : A choice food pantry that offers monthly food assistance to families in need by appointment.

West Avenue Compassion: Distributes food through an open pantry and by appointment for a “choice pantry” that lets clients select their groceries. Food Distribution: 10715 West Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78213, Every Tuesday (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM). Choice Pantry: Sign up: Last Tuesday of each month (8:00 AM – 9:30 AM). Call 210-573-2847. Senior Pantry/Project Hope – First Thursday of each month (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM).

Blessed Angels Community Center : An emergency food pantry that serves low-income families, seniors, veterans, and the homeless.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church: Food Bank is open on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month. The times are from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. 333 Martin Luther King Dr., 78203, 210-533-7131, Mount Zion First Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas

Northern Hills UMC Food Pantry: 4300 Thousand Oaks Dr., Ste. 102, 78217, 210-236-6810.  Serves only zip codes 78217, 78233, 78247. Call M-F for an appointment to shop on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 9-11 am or 1-3 pm.  Accepting calls for November appointments. (Appointments, Option 2)

Free Meals

Lunch – Beginning Tuesday, October 28, 2025, CMI will be offering free daily lunches to anyone affected by the shutdown. Meals will be served Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Travis Park Church, located at 230 E. Travis Street.  All meals will be served To Go straight from our Corazon Kitchen.

We warmly welcome all federal employees, contractors, and community members who may be experiencing hardship during this time. Dinner – Free Community Dinners offered at Baptist Temple Church. Dinners are Tuesdays from 5:00 – 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall at 901 E. Drexel, 78210, 210-533-7114.
