Welcome! Our four-hour virtual poetry/paragraph workshop will focus on writing as a gift - to us, and from us to others. What do we already have in our vast realms of material? What new knowledge has been given to us during these past strange seasons? What have we left untouched for a long time? Where might we find a new treasure in what we thought we knew?

Writing believable, memorable, smart dialogue is a frequent hurdle for many writers. Is it "real" – too much, too little, or simply the not quite right words conveying the not quite right essence? Tricky stuff. Take this opportunity to work closely with award-winning author and screenplay pro William Sibley to learn some expert advice on what makes for unique dialogue that "sells" the writing for the reader—whether for a novel, play, film, or TV series.
We're reading and discussing Deb Olin Unferth's novel Barn 8 (Graywolf, 2020), named a best book of 2020 by NPR, Slate, Austin Chronicle, and Literary Hub. This session will be moderated by Elizabeth McCracken, the author of seven books, including Thunderstruck & Other Stories and The Souvenir Museum.
How can we help more people become aware of our work? Attendees will leave inspired with concrete ideas to take their art further.

This workshop will explore the paradox of writing the Ineffable: how to describe what is almost gone, the lost moment, extreme beauty, depth of fleeting feeling. We will discuss the different techniques used in the work of Jorie Graham, Susan Stewart, and Joanna Klink, three poets that capture the Ineffable. We will generate work of our own, for deep discussion in this collaborative workshop.
