Take the first steps towards that microphone with this deep dive into the world of slam poetry with spoken word veteran, C.L. “Rooster” Martinez! (Poetry) Slam 101 is a performance and generative workshop that will examine the background and history of slam poetry as an event and competitive form. Participants will create work for the slam/competitive stage, learn editing strategies for work intended for the slam stage, collaborate on team or “group poems”, and receive instant feedback on written work and performances and strategies (examples and coaching) for the slam stage.
