(Poetry) Slam 101 is a performance and generative workshop that will examine the background and history of slam poetry as an event and competitive form. Participants will create work for the slam/competitive stage, learn editing strategies for work intended for the slam stage, collaborate on team or “group poems”, and receive instant feedback on written work and performances and strategies (examples and coaching) for the slam stage.

Through erasure, we are able to take existing text and blackout, erase, and obscure what is already written to create a whole new text that talks back to history, institutions, news media, departed souls, and any force that threatens to silence us.
