These peer-driven workshops, held the last Monday of each month, are free and open to writers of all levels and focus on poetry, flash fiction, and short creative non-fiction.
Join us for an evening of two Texas storytellers at the top of their powers: San Antonio Express-News journalist, Cary Clack, and award-winning writer, journalist and 5th generation Texas rancher, Bill Sibley, as we celebrate Bill’s 4th novel Here We Go Loop De Loop (Atmosphere Press, 2021).
Each of us has a writing voice that is distinctly our own. Creative nonfiction is a great way to discover that voice. In this workshop, we will use texts and writing exercises to help us discover who we are, what we think, and how to capture our voice on the page. Writers of all levels are welcome.

Up Next: We’re reading and discussing Laurie Ann Guerrero’s collection of poems in the TCU Texas Poets Laureate Series: I have Eaten the Rattlesnake. The discussion will be moderated by Xelena González, the upcoming title Remembering (Simon & Schuster, 2023).

Week by week, we will delve into everything from your character’s emotional patterns and actions, to debunking writing rules you’ve been told to follow. You will also receive tools and advice that minimize writer’s block and energize your creative process. You will leave this class with characters who come alive and move the story, a synopsis, title, and opening paragraph to your novel or memoir, and confidence that your story is worth telling.
Take the first steps towards that microphone with this deep dive into the world of slam poetry with spoken word veteran, C.L. “Rooster” Martinez! (Poetry) Slam 101 is a performance and generative workshop that will examine the background and history of slam poetry as an event and competitive form. Participants will create work for the slam/competitive stage, learn editing strategies for work intended for the slam stage, collaborate on team or “group poems”, and receive instant feedback on written work and performances and strategies (examples and coaching) for the slam stage.
